It’s a busy week for us here and the mailing list mail out is overdue, so you can still jump on it in time to catch up with some cool happenings. In the meantime a quick shout-out to our friends Bitrok. Apart from being a great live breaks act and prolific producers, they have pulled off one of the best remixes on the recently released remix album by Gotye, entitled “Mixed Blood”. If you havent heard Gotye you are missing out on one of the most fascinating and talented producers in Australia to date. Our favourite track on his album Like Drawing Blood is “Thanks for your time”, which Bitrok were given at last minute to remix and pulled of an incredible interpretation. Check the album out and support some great Australian talent!
On a related topic, extra congrats to Gotye for no less then five ARIA nominations! Check his site for the details and click listen for his tunes. This equates to Bitrok being a part of that nomination! No small feat. The ARIA’s are in constant danger of being overtaken in an age where a major label can set up an imprint to swamp the “independent” categories and big budget pop acts with a kick drum can dominate the “dance” category. Seeing someone like Gotye get such recognition is very inspiring, reminiscent of Infusion winning “Best Dance Release” on a shortlist dominated by commercial electro pop acts such as Body Rockers and Rogue Traders. Not to attack the commercial and electro side of the industry at all, we’re all part of the same musical environment, but i think we can all agree the odd win from an “act next door” is a healthy state of affairs grasping air time and attentions away from the accountants and marketing agents.
