Before I Catch This Plane
A quick post after an all-night geeking session. The clock is ticking on a few cool projects before I fly out to join a project taking place in Vietnam and Cambodia. The trip is part of a charity challenge that we have been looking forward to, but the flight departs in 48 hours and there is still a lot left to do! Recently we have been bringing some life back to these blogs as we ready for an exciting 2009, which is obvious I hope just from looking at the site! A quick bandaid solution to get the dialog happening again, and as such its about time to drop some audio files of whats been up.
What We Do: Member Antics In 2008
With Segue enjoying a break from playing over the last few months, there has been time to play with other projects and collaborate in different directions. This is a quick update on what’s been happening with everyone that has been involved in Segue over the years.
Segue Video: LIVE at the Big Day Out
On the 20th of January 2008 the Segue crew hit the stage to drop some progressive house and acid tech on the Boiler Room stage. Band video editor and VJ collaborator Jaymis was there with HD cameras in tow and captured the epic finale in all its acid house goodness. Having watched the likes of Chemical Brothers grace the very same stage only years before, this remains to date a definite highlight for the crew and the video says it all.

Dirty: Segue wash up a King Unique remix
Looking for an excuse to try some new ideas, Segue have thrown their hand into the King Unique remix competition with a decidedly house oriented mix of “Dirty”. Put it down to Kris being a drummer but the cowbell breakdown has been getting love, with the mix making its way into the CD wallets of some of the Segue collaborators and beleaguered colleague DJ’s. The crew were set to give it a test at Drop’s 5th birthday but rumour has it someone fell asleep and someone else found himself lost somewhere in the middle of Queensland. The track is, therefore, decidedly more rock and roll then its remixers.
Segue Video Diary: 017 Backstage at Big Day Out
Part 17 of the Segue video diary. Filmed but minutes after Segue walked off the Big Day Out‘s Boiler Room stage to the applause of many thousands of, we hope, particularly enthused people. Another glimpse into the behind-the-scenes of this collective of geeks and rockers. This is as fine a time as any to hint about the high definition footage being edited of the Boiler Room gig and a sneak preview of the tiniest hint of a new track being worked on at present. Special mention to Ryan who saved a collapsing sampler in the drum rig, Kris who rocked his first gig with us and Jaymis and Rach for being their usual professional video and photography selves.

Segue studio move turned CDM article
A live act gets very good at unplugging and plugging gear in and out in a very short space of time. After many years of practice and certainly many before that, the Segue crew have merged and migrated studios enough times to gather some opinions on how to make the process easier. With a recent studio relocation completed, Dave wrote up a quick list of ten tips for geeks on the move. Check out Moving Music: 10 Ways for a Music Geek to Move House on CreateDigitalMusic.com.
Catch Leo DJ’ing at Colours this Friday 28th
Fresh back from a trip to Indonesia you can catch Segue’s most enlightened cohort dropping a DJ set at Colours at Empire this Friday. Leo is dropping a tech set from 2am amid a stellar local line-up, making this one to mark on the calendar for those based in or who can make it to Brisbane. For everyone out of state and our colleagues and cohorts overseas, we can always see if we can slip a recording device in-line. Given how rarely Segue has uploaded its own live sets (and usually only on the mailing list) we can’t make any promises! Full event details on Inthemix.
Segue T-Shirts Available Now!
Exciting news as Segue T-Shirts are now available in a range of male and female sizes. Designed by the incredible local artist Monaux, these shirts were originally screen printed at Red Octopus to celebrate Segue’s exciting performance at the Boiler Room at the Gold Coast Big Day Out festival. The remainder are now available for purchase in the Store or else simply Contact us and we will work something out. Show your support for Segue and synthesising robots today!
Update 9th Oct 2008: The store stock has been depleted and we are now down to select quantities of sizes. These will be put aside until after the next track release in a few weeks and we will make sure they are avialable once again. A special thanks to everyone who has sent in pics of them sporting our robot mascot and to other acts such as Silent Shadow who have been spotted in photos and footage from Parklife 2008 rocking out onstage with a Segue shirt on! Nice!
Smashbang single release delays
The dual single releases on Smashbang Records have encountered some unavoidable delays and are awaiting a final launch date to be reconfirmed. Delays as such can often occur and are difficult to plan for so both Dave and Leo have taken the time to take a break from performing live to focus on studio output and recharging the batteries. Over the last few weeks Dave has been working with Segue collaborator Kris Ko on DJ re-edits of Segue tracks and some remix work coming into the studio. Some might know Kris from his dramatic drumming entrance during Segue’s Boiler Room set at Big Day Out in 2008 as captured by fans in the crowd and posted on sites such as YouTube. Others might know his body of work ranging from drumming in live DNB act Silent Shadow, producing the Beatport favourite progressive house bomb “Tribal Gathering” as part of seminal Brisbane electronic act D-KO and a very long list of electronic and Indy scene happenings. DJ edits will be doing the rounds shortly. Those particularly curious can get in touch or keep an eye on the mailing list. For the time being, stay tuned for the confirmed release dates.
Segue single launch
This Friday sees the launch of two new Segue tracks on Melbourne based Smash Bang Records . Thats 2 tracks that will be immediately recognisable to any who have caught a Segue show over the last year, being crowd (and band!) favourites “Cronies” and “Reset”. Joining us on the night will be Smash Bang head honcho Ehsan Gelsi as special guest and an equally special set of Segue sounds with a few surprise flashbacks to some of our favourite moments and mixes over the last two years. Add a stellar local cast including Sidechain Music cohorts Kris Ko and Natalya Monaghan alongside local breaks and techstep act Hyperion, also launching their new double single. Launching like rocket ships! Get on board!
